We went to the Friday night opening of Brian Eno's 77 Million Paintings at the Yerba Buena last night. We stayed about 2 hours I guess, watching the display. FYI: everyone on acid had an even better show than us.

Last night we went to see Rodrigo y Gabriela at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga just west of Mountain View. What a great show. They played some hit songs from their album, as well as requests that the audience made (yelled); Metallica, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and more.

I encourage you to check out the Rodrigo y Gabriela sound; their music is Mexican slash metal influenced by ... Irish music ... turned acoustic ... but not Flamenco.

As Ash will probably explain, watching a concert in a winery also leads to some pretty interesting events. We are going to return again for a Lewis Black show in August because we had a great time at the venue.

Ash and I finished the restoration project this weekend on a 100+ year old bench she found on the curb about a month ago. It had been set out for the garbage by some neighbors, what a shame.

After removing the many layers of paint we found out it was forged at the Baker Hamilton Benicia Agricultural Works. I was able to find through Google Benicia Foundry and Iron Works, which descended from Benicia AGL works. I inquired with them about the original finish types and history of the iron for the bench. They responded to me, telling me it was probably forged between 1879 and 1905. Wow! So maybe it is even more than 100 years old!

Six new redwood planks, a fresh coat of enamel, and 3 weekends of hard work and this old beauty has a prominent position in our house.

Man I screwed something up this time with my new-hire paperwork. Get this, roughly half (46%) of my paycheck is going to pay Federal and California income taxes and charities.

Argh. I thought I had this shit figured out. Time to seek professional tax help.

If you have ever wondered what the story is behind the "modern" typeface Helvetica, you need to catch the Helvetica film. Ashley tried to get in to see it when it screened at SXSW in Austin this year but it was far too crowded. We managed to catch it last night and the Landmark Theatre downtown.

Gary Hustwit, the director of the film was in person to present the movie and to take questions after the screening. If you can't catch a screening, he told the audience the DVD will be releasing sometime in October.

I ordered Opera for the DS Classic from the Nintendo Online Store and it was shipped in record time. I received it yesterday!


Even though I have only used it for about an hour, I am completely blown away by the completeness of this browser. It seems to support all of the JavaScript, DHTML I can throw at it.


It does not seem to support Flash or have an XMLHTTP object however.

Finally a bought a replacement camera, the Canon SD1000. If you remember that I lost my last camera (Canon SD400) in the Bay on a sailing trip, you will be happy to know I got a new one and hopefully my Flickr stream wont be as dormant.



I also picked up a set of bluetooth headphones that have a 14 hour playback time. I choose the Jabra BT620 for the playback time and feature set. They also were bundled with an iPod bluetooth adapter. I wanted it to use them to listen to iTunes from my OSX mac, but as it turns out the Apple Mac Book Pro doesn't currently support A2DP. They do connect just fine to my Apple, however the playback is a little tinny-eared. When in use with a A2DP device, they sound awesome.




Today if I am lucky, my shipment from Nintendo of Opera for the DS Classic comes in and I can begin a new touchscreen project I have been wanting to work on since years back when Opera came out for DS in Japan.

Apple has ported the Safari browser to Windows. So now you can use the second most least-used browser on your Windows machine instead of having to use a Mac (or a half completed Windows port of WebKit aka-Swift). It took Apple just 4 years to port it.



Now that I converted to using a Mac for just this purpose, Apple just pissed me off a little bit. I guess I can cross-OS check some AIR apps with this Mac to justify it .

While installing Norton 360, I thought it was interesting of Symantec to (what appears to me) give permission for this Japanese woman to throw her cultural manners aside and uncover her mouth while smiling.

Look, I'm blogging about Mac stuff now. Neat.

Camino 1.5 is out, although I can't figure out why you would want to install it. The only feature I think it supports that Firefox doesn't is Keychain access, but I could be wrong (Tim?).

The useful browsers for Mac OSX I have installed are Firefox 1.5, Firefox 2, Firefox 3b, OmniWeb, Safari, Opera 9, and iCab. What else am I missing?

Got a sweet MacBook Pro at the new job. It runs Windows XP, Mandriva and of course OSX; giving me the full spectrum of web browsers to work my web UI magic on.

I love starting a new job. New challenges, new people to meet. This time around I only got 4 days off between leaving McAfee and my new starting date which definitely wasn't enough. I am going to have to take a vacation this year for sure.
